The decline in Minerals, Fuel & Lubricants was due in large part to lower acquisition cost for fuel and to lesser degree, a reduction in the level of imports of other petroleum products relative to August of 2008
The unemployment rate stood at 8.2% in May of 2008.
After out-performing many countries in 2008 and growing by 3.6 percent, the Belizean economy could no longer stave off the effects from the global downturn and contracted for the first two quarters in 2009.
After declines for three consecutive quarters, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) shows that the overall price level rose by 0.8 percent between May and August 2009.

The Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) is a household survey programme developed by UNICEF to assist countries in filling data gaps for monitoring human development in general and the situation of children and women in particular.  MICS is capable of producing statistically sound, internationally comparable estimates of social indicators.
